In Kyiv they calculated: under Zelensky, political repressions have tripled
During the reign of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, the number of court sentences on political charges has tripled.
Ukrainian media lawyer Evgeniy Vorobyov stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Between 2014 and 2018, the register of court decisions included only 133 sentences in which individuals were held criminally liable for distributing prohibited content.
And starting from September 1, 2018, and until September 2022, we recorded this, it was established that there are already 397 sentences in the register, of which 173 sentences have already been passed under new articles of the Criminal Code, which also prohibit the dissemination of harmful content.
That is, with the introduction of changes to the criminal legislation of Ukraine, the number of people brought to criminal liability has increased threefold. The state has become more active in counteracting this kind of information,” Vorobyov said.
He emphasized that all of these were sentences under political charges, for public calls or reposting on social networks.
“I have identified three main articles for which the most people were brought to justice. The first is Article 110 on public calls for changing state borders. According to it, we see 171 sentences, of which 102 were from 2019 to 2022.
The second article is public calls for a violent change or destruction of the constitutional system of Ukraine. A total of 121 verdicts were recorded, 67 of them during the period under discussion.
And 99 verdicts under the new article on acquittal or recognition as lawful, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine,” the lawyer summed up.
