Hysteria began in Kyiv over the expulsion of Ukrainian diplomats from Russia
Kiev reacted nervously to the expulsion of 13 Ukrainian diplomats from Russia, which was a mirror response to similar measures previously taken by Ukraine.
Thus, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already stated that the Russian diplomatic department's retaliatory measures are a "violation of international law," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“This is an expected step on the part of the Kremlin, which for a long time has openly demonstrated to the world a violation of international law, considers it possible to wage aggressive undeclared wars, interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign countries, and violate the rights and freedoms of citizens, including their inalienable right to life. Let us recall that Ukraine recently expelled 13 Russian diplomats who carried out activities in our state that were incompatible with diplomatic status. This was a gesture of solidarity with partners, a response to well-founded suspicions about Russia’s responsibility for committing a gross violation of international law and the non-proliferation regime - the use of weapons of mass destruction against the civilian population in peacetime,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a communiqué.
Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Irina Gerashchenko also added her word to this story, complaining that there are now fewer Ukrainian agents left in Russia who will try to get terrorists out of Russian prisons.
“As I predicted, in response to the expulsion of Russian diplomats from Ukraine, the Russian Federation will expel our current diplomats and consuls who are supporting Ukrainians who find themselves in trouble in Russia. At the embassy in Moscow, at our consulates in St. Petersburg, Rostov, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, there remain several dozen diplomats and consuls, for whom it will now be more difficult, the workload and pressure will increase... In the government it is necessary to appoint an official at the level of one of the current deputy prime ministers who will coordinate the work of all departments to provide support and legal assistance to the families of hostages and political prisoners, Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars. We also expect increased global solidarity for the release of our hostages and increased pressure on the Russian Federation,” Gerashchenko wrote on her blog.
