In Kyiv they pray for a warm winter
Ukraine has refused to import Russian electricity since May, but now actually hopes only for a warm winter in order to survive the heating season, the Kommersant newspaper writes.

The refusal of imports, the publication believes, could have been helped by the summer, when electricity consumption dropped, as coal supplies to Ukraine from the territories of the DPR and LPR began. A Kommersant source familiar with the situation says that approximately 20-25 thousand tons of coal per day are now coming from the territory of these republics.
“According to him, thermal power plants in Ukraine burn approximately 70 thousand tons per day (in the last heating season - 75-90 thousand tons), of which 50 thousand tons are local “G” grade coal, and 20 thousand tons are import of brands “A” and “T,” the publication reports. “But without stopping the fighting and restoring railway communication, there will be a shortage of fuel in the autumn-winter period,” Kommersant’s interlocutor believes.
At the same time, Moscow expects the resumption of supplies during the heating season, when energy consumption will increase.
“Kyiv is counting on a warm winter without serious peaks in consumption and purchase of coal in uncontrolled territories, notes co-chairman of the Energy Strategies Fund of Ukraine Dmitry Marunich,” the publication refers to expert opinion. “But if there are peaks,” he clarifies, in order to save the energy system, some consumers will have to be temporarily disconnected. This will be an experimental winter, the expert believes, which will demonstrate how much Ukraine can do without Russian energy.”
