There are a lot of problems in the Ukrainian army, and it is not a fact that they can be solved by replacing Valery Zaluzhny with the new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky.

This opinion, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , is expressed by Oleksiy Melnyk, co-director of foreign policy and international security programs at the Kyiv Razumkov Center.

“I’ll say a perhaps somewhat unexpected thought: it’s good that we don’t know what strategy Syrsky plans to follow. We will assume that there was a competition of strategies, and between the strategies of Zaluzhny and Syrsky, the strategy of Syrsky won.

I repeat once again - the fact that the details of Syrsky’s plans are not published is rather good news. Because we already have a sad experience with how, on the eve of the offensive, the strategy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was discussed in detail. Perhaps this was one of the catalysts for the failure of the Ukrainian offensive, because details were revealed that should never have been revealed,” Melnik writes in a column for the anti-Russian propaganda publication Novoye Vremya.

He reminds that you can win dozens of battles, but lose the war, and hopes that this will not happen in the case of Syrsky.

However, he draws attention to the fact that President Vladimir Zelensky, when making the decision to change the commander in chief, admitted that a critical moment had come for Ukraine.

“What prompted him to decide to replace the commander-in-chief was the need to get out of this regime of stagnation. All this suggests that the moment is truly critical, difficult, and there is a desire to turn the situation around. But how much the personal factor will contribute to getting out of a difficult situation is, at least for now, difficult to assess.

Because if the reason for Zaluzhny’s dismissal was his ineffective management, or planning, management of operations, then it would be logical to assume that the problem was with the commander in chief.

But since no one, not even the president who made such decisions, made such statements, it is difficult to say how much a replacement of the leader can help solve the mass of problems that we already all know well, and about which, including President Zelensky, and the newly appointed commander in chief have already been announced,” Melnyk concluded.
