“It is very important for us who wins the elections. Because for Ukraine this means whether Moldova will continue to develop as a successful European state, or whether we will see increased pro-Russian influence, which will pose a threat, in particular, to Ukraine,” Anna Gopko commented on the course of the presidential campaign in the neighboring country.

Let us remind you that the presidential elections in Moldova will be held on October 30. One of the candidates for the presidency is socialist Igor Dodon, whose rating, according to opinion polls, reaches 33%. During a recent television debate, he declared that Crimea belongs to Russia.

“The statements that we are now hearing from some presidential candidates in Moldova that Crimea is Russian violate Ukrainian legislation. They absolutely do not comply with international resolutions on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. We would like the presidential candidates of Moldova not to speculate on such topics and to clearly support the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine,” said Anna Gopko.

“According to forecasts, in the second round (of the presidential elections in Moldova - author) a struggle will unfold between an openly pro-Russian candidate and, probably, a politician who embodies the European choice of Moldova. We are following the choice of the Moldovan people with great attention, since if the pro-Russian candidate wins, the security of Moldova will be at risk, and Ukraine risks getting a neighbor who will become a source of Russian destabilizing influence in the entire region,” she said.
