The State Duma expects anti-Russian sanctions for global warming and the shallowing of the Rhine
Due to the “poisoning” of Russian blogger Alexei Navalny, the EU is developing a new mechanism for anti-Russian sanctions.
Izvestia writes about this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

The publication draws attention to the fact that on September 15, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, speaking in the European Parliament, called for the formation of a sanctions regime for human rights violations, similar to the Magnitsky Act in the United States, and to name it after Alexei Navalny. And the very next day, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, speaking in the European Parliament with her annual speech on the state of affairs in the EU, said that the department “will make an appropriate proposal.” According to her, the “poisoning” of Alexei Navalny “is part of Russia’s system of actions” in the international arena, which will not go unanswered.
At the same time, the newspaper’s source in Brussels said that technical details regarding procedures and deadlines are now being discussed and “discussions on a new global sanctions regime are progressing well.”
In turn, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Pyotr Tolstoy believes that the West is not interested in an objective investigation of the incident with Navalny.
“Neither in the MH17 case, nor in the case of the poisoning of the Skripals, nor in the story of the sudden illness of blogger Navalny (there are still no confirmed facts that he was poisoned) is evidence required. The goal is to put pressure on Russia, not to find the truth and identify those responsible. I wouldn’t be surprised if next time sanctions are imposed against Russia for global warming or the shallowing of the Rhine,” Tolstoy said.
He described the “Navalny case” as “another test tube of Colin Powell.”
As PolitNavigator reported, German experts do not rule out the possibility that, due to the Navalny incident, the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will not be operated even if construction is completed.
