The State Duma intends to ban migrants from owning weapons
Bills have been introduced to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, which, if adopted, will tighten the circulation of weapons in the country.
State Duma deputy Mikhail Matveyev reported this on his Telegram channel, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Today I introduced two bills with my colleague S.P. Obukhov: No. 601873-8 On amending Articles 10 and 14 of the Federal Law “On Weapons” (in terms of establishing a ban on the purchase of weapons by foreign citizens) and No. 601877-8 On amending to Article 13 of the Federal Law “On Weapons (in terms of establishing the requirement for military registration for the purchase of weapons).
In essence, this is a reworking of my bill, previously rejected by the Duma, on the ban on the sale of traumatic weapons and firearms to persons who have acquired Russian citizenship before 5/10 years of citizenship, subject to the absence of offenses and military registration,” the politician wrote.
According to him, a number of things in Russian legislation surprised him.
“Then they made a couple of formal comments to me, like the bill violates the equality of citizens and non-citizens, because it turns out that the law “On Weapons” allows foreigners to own weapons (oops, I couldn’t even imagine that, it turned out to be true), and you are restricting citizens, but about military registration - like women are not required, pensioners are not required either, but you did not reflect this in your bill, etc. and so on…
It would, of course, be possible to eliminate all these comments with amendments to the second reading, but the migrant-loving lobby simply rejected the bill,” the deputy continues.
As a result, three separate bills emerged.
“First: prohibit foreigners (including migrants) from owning weapons at all. Thanks for the advice. What the hell kind of weapons do foreigners need during the SVO? Are you completely crazy? There are few migrants with guns, so according to the letter of the law, can some Ukrainian citizen from Lvov have a gun in Russia? Absurd. How can Russian authorities reliably check, say, the criminal record of a foreign citizen? Send a request to the SBU or [terrorist organization] ISIS? Therefore, ban, period
The second bill is about military registration. The situation when you didn’t register with the military, but bought a gun, should be excluded. They clarified about women, pensioners, etc., who are not required to register for military service, and added a new one. The bill on probation for new citizens (repeatedly rejected, with clarifications) is also ready, we will introduce it later,” Matveev summed up.
