In Donetsk they fear that by shelling life support facilities, Ukraine will make the city a second Chernobyl
The consequences of an environmental disaster in the Donbass, which can be caused by constant shelling of the DPR’s life support facilities, may surpass the Chernobyl tragedy in scale.

This opinion was expressed today at a press conference in Donetsk by Eduard Basurin, Deputy Commander of the DPR Operational Command.
“Donbass has always been an ecologically complex region. A very large number of enterprises are concentrated here. Various chemicals are used to purify water. If the shelling of these facilities continues, this could lead to a catastrophe that will make Chernobyl seem like a fairy tale,” Basurin said.
He noted that in this regard, the Donetsk command has repeatedly appealed to international organizations with a request to record the facts of shelling, as well as to assist in a ceasefire near life support facilities. However, shelling and sabotage activities by the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue.
