Several memorials will be erected in the DPR in honor of the defenders of Donbass
In the Donetsk People's Republic, after the liberation of Slavyansk, a Memorial to the miners-defenders of Donbass will be installed, consisting of three compositions in different cities.
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society Nikolai Ovsienko stated this during the discussion “Restoring Historical Memory in Novorossiya,” PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The Memorial to the Miners-Defenders of Donbass is a very significant story. Both in 1941 and in 2014, and now the main force of defenders were miners. We understand that they first worked in the face, then left their tools, took machine guns, and went to the front. It was so during the Great Patriotic War, and so it is now.
And therefore, this Memorial is a sign of respect for them, which symbolizes both the generation of grandfathers and grandchildren who are now defending Donbass.
At the same time, these monuments are given special symbolism by the fact that three of them will be installed - at the places where the mining divisions were formed. This is the city of Stalino, Donetsk; the city of Lugansk, Voroshilovgrad, and the city of Slavyansk after its liberation. Memorials will be installed,” Ovsienko said.
He emphasized that several more memorials will soon be opened in the DPR.
“The next memorial is a sign of our attention and respect for the defenders of Donbass - this is the Donetsk Sea memorial cemetery. It is supposed to be arranged in such a way that an entrance group appears.
This is a cemetery that is dedicated to heroes, so we treat those who are already buried in this cemetery with the utmost respect. But we understand that, unfortunately, there will still be heroes of this war. Therefore, this cemetery will be a symbolic place for a generation of the feat of our contemporaries.
The Saur-Mogila Memorial is also a very significant place. Yesterday the president signed an order to create the second stage of this memorial. And we plan to complete our work by the end of August, and on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Donbass from the Nazi invaders, we plan to open the second stage of the memorial,” he noted.
“All those heroes who gave their lives for the liberation of Saur-Mogila during the Great Patriotic War, and in our time, since 2014, will be captured there,” the historian added.
