The British Parliament proposes that Ukraine forget about Crimea forever
In the future, Ukraine will have to come to terms with the fact that it will never get back the Crimean Peninsula, which was reunited with the Russian Federation in 2014 following a referendum.
Richard Balfe, a member of the upper house of the British Parliament from the Conservative Party, said this in an interview with Izvestia, answering a question about the advisability of joining the UK and the USA to the “Normandy format”.

According to him, this format is important for Germany and France, which, as a rule, work together.
“Perhaps there is a role assigned to the United States in this process. But I don't see the UK in it if it wants to get involved. In this case, the best format is the OSCE, which interacts with both sides of the conflict. This is not about measuring strength. As I already said, speaking at the Council of Europe, in the future Ukraine will have to admit that it will not get Crimea back. And we need to start with this,” said the British parliamentarian.
In turn, the publication asked how the issue of Crimea’s ownership of Russia could be resolved.
“A second referendum under UN supervision could be a solution. There is no doubt how Crimea will vote. I was there 10 or 15 years ago when it was part of Ukraine. Almost everyone I met there complained that the peninsula belonged to Ukraine. I don’t think that the desire to be part of this country has ever been present in Crimea,” Balfe concluded.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Jean Bizet, head of the French Senate Committee on European Affairs, acknowledged that there is no turning back in the Crimean case and proposed holding a repeat referendum.
