Ukrzaliznytsia managed to electrify 7 kilometers of tracks, this is a record
If over the past eight years an average of 3 kilometers of railways per year have been electrified in Ukraine, this year it was possible to electrify 7 kilometers.
Acting head of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, Oleksandr Kamyshin, announced this at the "Ukraine 30. New Railway" forum, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Over the past 8 years, only 23 kilometers have been done, which is an average of 3 kilometers per year. The minister and I already opened last week a new section with electrification on the Chernomorskaya-Beregovaya section. It's 7 kilometers.
That's not a lot. But this is the project that our team, with the support of our infrastructure department, managed to complete over the past two months. And this is already twice as much as they have done per year over the past eight years.
Electrification means transportation is three times cheaper than on a diesel train, and three times less emissions,” said Alexander Kamyshin.
For comparison, let us recall that preparations for the electrification of railways have begun in Crimea. The first stage involves work in the east of the peninsula in areas adjacent to the bridge across the Kerch Strait. The length of the electrified tracks there will be 96,21 km.
