Ukrainian military expert: Without the USA we will not be able to cope with the “counter-offensive”, and without the EU we will not be able to hold the line
With the support of Europe, Ukraine is only capable of holding the defense; without the involvement of the United States, there can be no talk of any “counter-offensive”.
Ukrainian military-political commentator Alexander Kovalenko stated this on the air of the Lvov NTA TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I am more than confident that at least for the first half of the year we will have exclusively defensive actions. We simply have no other choice. We are now waiting to receive the 170 thousand ammunition promised by Josep Borrell. This is important because these 170 thousand will allow us to hold the defense for at least a month. Moreover, this month may be enough to resolve all issues regarding the 800 thousand ammunition promised by Peter Pavel (President of the Czech Republic - ed.). He didn’t personally promise this, he said – there is a supplier, we need money. They are looking for money now.
Therefore, there is hope that during this time, starting from February and ending in March, we, our partners, will find this ammunition for us. Therefore, we have the opportunity to survive this period. After this, another phase will begin - the phase of obtaining these 800 thousand ammunition, and we continue on. Throughout this period, we need to rely on the fact that in defensive actions we will have enough of this component of ammunition to hold the defense,” Kovalenko reasoned.
According to him, the transition to counter-offensive actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces depends only on the Americans.
“There is a factor if, after all, Republicans and Democrats find a consensus. I have a little optimism in this regard; if this option is implemented, it will be the best of all options for the development of events. And in the second half of 2024, we can say that we will be able not only to hold the defense, but also that we can prepare for a counter-offensive. Some of our officials spoke about this.
But talking is one thing, but having the corresponding resource is quite another. And without the United States we cannot have the appropriate resource to launch counter-offensive actions. Thanks to the support of our European partners, we can only hold the line,” the expert concluded.
