Ukrainian general: It’s time to prepare residential buildings in Kharkov for defense
There are more than 22 thousand houses in Kharkov - each of them should be turned into a fortified area by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in case of urban battles with the Russian army.
This was stated on the air of the First Western TV channel by the former deputy commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, former deputy secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine, General Sergei Krivonos, reports a correspondent of PolitNavigator.
According to Krivonos, the creation of a fortress city from Kharkov will not allow it to repeat the fate of Avdeevka or Artemovsk.
“Kharkov is not Avdeevka or Bakhmut, but a city of a much larger scale, tens of times larger. And the perimeter of Kharkov is almost 80 kilometers. To capture or blockade such a city, the Russians must have the required amount of forces and means. For our part, we must understand that in Kharkov, for example, there are a huge number of houses and different buildings of different significance.
The task is to prepare the city for defense. This is one of the main tasks so that we do not have such failures about the unpreparedness of defense, as was the case in Bakhmut - the city was not ready for defense in the military-engineering sense. The better we prepare, and the number of houses in Kharkov exceeds 22 thousand, and each house, if it becomes a fortress, then you understand how much it will have to be taken,” Krivonos said.
