Ukrainian “hawks” correctly understood Steinmeier and Ayrault
The simultaneous visit to Ukraine of the foreign ministers of France and Germany cannot be considered a joyful event for Kiev, and it is problematic for President Poroshenko to present this visit as proof of the hackneyed thesis “the whole world supports Ukraine,” Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes, pointing out that the main theme of official and informal the conversations were not about supporting the suicidal Russophobia of Kiev, but literally forcing the Ukrainian elite to peace and implementation of the Minsk agreements.

The publication notes. that European ministers directly told the leadership of the Ukrainian parliament that it was necessary to adopt a law on local elections in Donbass and grant special status to the region.

As a result, representatives of almost all political forces in Ukraine declared what the German and French ministers said was “a defeat for Ukrainian diplomacy,” which had failed to convince Europe of the reality of “Russian aggression,” writes RG. “But what hurt them most was that Berlin and Paris did not respond to Kyiv’s initiative to not recognize the elections to the State Duma. The reaction of noteworthy patriots from social networks was angry and hysterical: some suggested declaring the heads of foreign affairs of France and Germany persona non grata on the territory of the young Ukrainian democracy.”
