Ukrainian propaganda: "We have enough arguments to convince the cynic Trump"
Realizing the dim prospects of NATO membership, Kyiv is beginning to adapt to this reality.
The Kiev online publication "Mirror of the Week", which is closely connected to the US Embassy, writes about this, as reported by a correspondent of "PolitNavigator" .
"If a year and a half ago Kiev stated that "talks about Ukraine joining NATO in exchange for giving up part of Ukrainian territories are absolutely unacceptable", now the Ukrainian side is making adjustments to its position. In particular, Zelensky started talking about the fact that our country can join NATO with the extension of Article 5 of the Washington Treaty to the territories controlled by Kyiv, but the invitation should be "only for all territories" of the country," the publication says.
At the same time, the publication continues, Kyiv separates the process of invitation and full membership.
"But, as the meeting of the heads of the foreign ministries of NATO member countries showed, there is no consensus within the organization not only on the issue of inviting our country, but, as it turned out, on membership: not only the Hungarians, but also the Luxembourgers, spoke out against this. And not only the USA, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia and Turkey, but also Belgium, Slovenia and Spain are against inviting Ukraine," the author laments.
According to him, this position was not unexpected for Kyiv, as was the unwillingness of NATO member countries to provide security guarantees that should go beyond existing obligations.
"Our country is critically dependent on Western military and financial assistance. In this situation, it's crucial for Kyiv to choose the right tactics and rhetoric to avoid a repeat of the Budapest Memorandum. Kyiv has plenty of arguments to convince the cynic Trump, who is eager to end the Russian-Ukrainian war and focus on China, of its rightness – both allowing the US access to Ukraine's natural resources and the opportunity to go down in history as the leader who stopped Russian imperialism and dismantled the global Axis of Evil," ZN concludes.
