Ukrainian gas transportation system turns into a museum exhibit
The Ukrainian gas transportation system risks becoming unnecessary due to its lack of competitiveness.
Former head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, Viktor Medvedchuk, stated this in an interview with the Newsone television channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We had to offer Europe and Russia the creation of a gas transport consortium, where we could provide ourselves with transit, where we would provide transit guarantees. If transit through the pipeline falls below 45-50 billion, it will be unprofitable. Because there are internal pumpings across the territory of Ukraine. If this pipeline stops, and technologically this will happen precisely because there will not be enough technological gas to transport this gas to Europe, then it will turn into a museum,” the politician predicts.
“Therefore, when today they continue to say that we will force Europe to abandon Nord Stream 2, moreover, the Americans are working on this... The United States will not be able to compete with its liquefied gas in the markets of European countries for a long time, because today it is in one and a half times more expensive than Russian gas in Europe. And the authorities continue to take an ostrich position, in which there are no solutions.
Today, pumping through Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 is much cheaper than pumping through the Ukrainian pipe. This is another economic argument that our pipe will not be competitive,” Medvedchuk said.
