The Ukrainian elite behaves treacherously in Donbass because it has always hated this region, and now official Kyiv is being incited to a radical position by the provocative statements of US State Department Special Representative Kurt Volker, which run counter to the Minsk agreements.
Political scientist Oleg Matveychev stated this in an interview with PolitNavigator.
“When we in Russia had problems with separatism in certain regions, the government behaved softly, subtly and diplomatically. Ukraine and America are behaving like elephants in a china shop. It feels like they don’t need Donbass. The Ukrainian elite has always had this feeling. They believed that Donbass was bothering them; they always hated him because he opposed the Russophobic identity. They don’t raise their hands to do any good for Donbass. And in this situation, you can only try to win some sympathy with kindness,” Matveychev said.
He believes that Russia should build its policy in Donbass without regard to the United States.
“If we had paid attention to their cries, we would have long ago been sitting in the small Moscow principality of the times of Ivan Kalita. We didn’t pay attention to their cries and won’t pay any more attention,” Matveychev said.
