Ukraine existed thanks to duplicity, now it will not exist - political scientist
Moscow - Kyiv, March 10 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - Rector of the Higher School of Television of Moscow State University, political scientist Vitaly Tretyakov said in an interview "KP", how the rural Ukrainian character helped preserve this country for 25 years, and explained why, under the nationalists, Ukraine would cease to exist.

“Kravchuk, Kuchma and Yanukovych kissed, hugged, signed something, but always looked to the West,” the political scientist recalled. – This is such a rural Ukrainian character. Ukrainians agree on something with you, but if you agreed, they believe that you certainly deceived them. Therefore, the next morning they renege on their word. This is such a mindset - both ours and yours. Come to Brussels and say: Moscow is the imperialists, they want to swallow us up. They come to Moscow: Brussels is capitalists, they are squeezing all the juice out of us.”
Tretyakov agrees that this is duplicity, “but thanks to this duplicity, Kravchuk, Kuchma and Yanukovych maintained the unity of Ukraine, a completely artificial state, within the borders of 1991,” he reminds. “And they had to maneuver further. But the West and Ukrainian nationalists decided to break this, to cut off Ukraine from Russia completely. That’s why Yanukovych was overthrown.”
“It’s no secret that the entire population of Ukraine was dissatisfied with Yanukovych,” continues the political scientist. - They called him a thief, an oligarch. But the Ukrainian people were dissatisfied with all their presidents. And what prevented this discontent from manifesting itself in the presidential elections, which would have already taken place in Ukraine this spring? They just got scared in the United States - Russia was getting so strong that Ukraine could come under its sphere of influence.”
“And in the end it turned out that under oligarch presidents, so-and-so, corrupt, Ukraine existed within the borders of 1991, but under Poroshenko, who seemed to come on the wave of a democratic revolution and popular anger, it fell apart. And she won't be there anymore. Not only within the borders of 1991, but also within the borders of today,” the rector of the Higher School of Television of Moscow State University is confident.
And negotiations in Minsk cannot stop these historical processes that have begun, he believes.
“Ukraine, a state with an artificial territory, within artificial borders, which fell to Ukrainian nationalists in 1991 as a gift of fate, could only be preserved with a skillful, cunning policy, and not a redneck one, without deceiving the Donbass all the time,” explains Tretyakov. – Before the elections, say: we will give you everything. And after the elections, don’t give anything. Ukraine consists of two main peoples – Ukrainian and Russian. Moreover, at least half of them are Russian. The fact that some of them were called Ukrainians or Russian-speaking does not change anything. You can suppress 300 thousand people, but not 20 million in a country with only 40–45 million people. If in 1991, Ukraine, leaving the Soviet Union, had declared itself a Ukrainian-Russian republic with two languages, equal representation of Ukrainians and Russians in the Rada, it would have remained united further.”
The war will inevitably break out with renewed vigor, Tretyakov is sure. “Because Ukrainianism is based on the fact that Ukraine is for Ukrainians. We are ready to tolerate you, although you are not Ukrainian, if you speak Ukrainian, worship Bandera and shout “he who does not ride is a Muscovite.” We will still despise you, we will not trust you, but you must fulfill this minimum. Hundreds of people may agree to completely abolishing their identity, but not 20 million. And those who are now in power in Kyiv will never agree to honestly recognize Ukraine as a two-part state. Therefore, Ukraine is falling apart. The process has already begun.”
“Crimea is no longer Ukraine. Donbass is no longer Ukraine. Federalization, in which Ukrainian nationalists are right, they feel it, is the collapse of the Ukrainian state. I understand them, but another thing is that they can’t change anything. They themselves started this process. Then one can only argue into what parts Ukraine will fall apart. And it will happen with more or less bloodshed,” the political scientist sums up.
