Ukraine has become superfluous in the Normandy format
Ukraine demonstrates a complete lack of negotiating capacity, sabotaging the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Thus, when discussing the settlement of the conflict in Donbass in the Normandy format, Kyiv becomes superfluous.
Political scientist Denis Denisov writes about this in an author’s column published by the “Actual Comments” portal.
“...Only Russia’s position, which is being implemented by Vladimir Putin and Vladislav Surkov, is distinguished by consistency, which, unfortunately, cannot be said about other partners in resolving the conflict, who have often changed their opinions and approaches over four years,” the author states.
“Putin has repeatedly spoken about the need for direct negotiations between Kyiv and Donetsk and Lugansk to resolve the conflict. The Russian president, most likely, simply does not trust Petro Poroshenko himself, since over the past four years the Ukrainian president has repeatedly proven that his words are worthless,” the political scientist recalls.
“It is also becoming more and more obvious that Ukraine is clearly superfluous in the Normandy format and brings a rather destructive position to the negotiation process, often simply duplicating the opinion of its overseas partners. As a conclusion, in this situation one should act symmetrically, namely, deny subjectivity to the Ukrainian side, just as it does not want to accept the fact of the existence of full-fledged parties for negotiations in the person of the DPR and LPR,” the expert argues.
