“Based on information received from the United Electric Networks of Ukraine, there is a possibility of rolling or complete power outages from July 1, 2015 from 00 o’clock throughout the city. All city life support services are in full readiness. All diesel generators that the city has are ready to start to ensure uninterrupted power supply to socially significant facilities in the city.

We ask residents and visitors of the city to remain calm.

Charge your mobile devices to the maximum, turn them on if there is a wired radio point. In case of any changes in the situation, the Government will notify residents in all possible ways,” the Sevastopol government said in a statement.

The power cut in Crimea may be related to Ukraine’s attempt to put pressure on Moscow during the negotiations on Donbass. This evening, Ukrainian media reported that the contact group meeting scheduled for July 1 has been cancelled. Russia was blamed for the breakdown of the negotiations in Kyiv, which supposedly does not want to discuss Ukrainian proposals for the withdrawal of weapons and demilitarization of the approaches to Mariupol.

Let us remind you that today Crimea depends on electricity supplies through Ukraine.

Last November, the head of the State Duma Committee on Energy, Ivan Grachev, said that Crimea would have to spend at least the next two winters under the threat of an energy crisis, which could be caused by a cessation of electricity supplies from Ukraine.
