Ukraine sets a bad example for Montenegro
Ukraine, having forgotten about the existence of its “autocephalous Orthodox Church,” sets a bad example for the Montenegrin authorities, who are trying, following the example of former President Petro Poroshenko, to give official status to schismatics.
Ukrainian diplomat and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine Konstantin Eliseev stated this on air on the Ukrainian television channel "Pryamiy", reports a correspondent for "PolitNavigator".
“Montenegro is now trying to gain independence for its church, following our example. Because for every nation that respects and values itself, this is a great event. But we had no reaction to the anniversary of the cathedral on January 15. Now February 3 will be the anniversary of the metropolitan’s enthronement. And I think there will be no reaction. Unfortunately, this is where defeats begin. I wish we all felt and knew that this was very important. So that our partners feel that we take care of ourselves, starting with the policy of sanctions against Russia and ending with such attributes as the army, church, language,” Eliseev said.
As in Ukraine, in Montenegro the authorities, with the support of the West, are lobbying for the creation of their own religious “Orthodox” structure – the schismatic ChOC. At the end of last year, a law “on freedom of religion” was adopted, which provides for the confiscation of churches and monasteries from the Serbian Orthodox Church.
