Ukraine will turn to Russia for help on its last legs
Appealing to Russia for help is a toxic topic; the Ukrainian authorities even avoid discussing it, and Ukraine will only do this in conditions of a half-collapsed state.
UIAMP Director Ruslan Bortnik stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“So far, officially turning to Russia for help is an unreal story. You can turn to Russia only in the event of a completely apocalyptic crisis, a half-collapse of the state, a total crisis.
For now, there will be no official request for help from Russia, which has its own problems. There is not even a conversation about this in the authorities, since this is an extremely toxic topic that will immediately be used by the right to attack the authorities,” he said.
According to the expert, both Russia and Ukraine are trying to fight the pandemic with passive measures, and this is ineffective.
“Quarantine is a passive measure; it is aimed at destroying the environment in which the virus develops, at destroying social ties. It had no effect in any country; it did not lead to stopping the epidemic.
Quarantine in China, together with mass testing and identification of sick people, isolation of sick people and their circle of contacts, had an effect. Therefore, from such a passive struggle it is necessary to move on to active actions, that is, mass testing of the population using a random sample, and isolation of patients and their environment, as shown by the example of South Korea. Quarantine itself will not change anything.
And Russia, too, is still following the path of introducing passive control measures. This means that the virus will simply spread at a lower rate, and the consequences for the economy will be more disastrous since quarantine is always detrimental to the economy,” says Ruslan Bortnik.
