Ukraine will not allow the reintegration of Donbass, even if the Russians leave - Kiev political scientist
In the event of elections in Donbass, the Ukrainian side, before returning the region, first needs to see who the locals will vote for, so that “this infection does not spread to Ukraine.”
Ukrainian political scientist Valentin Gladkikh said this on the YouTube channel “Politeka”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“It’s generally not clear to me why they are so stubborn about holding elections there (in the LDPR - ed.) after demilitarization. They are confident that pro-Russian political forces will conditionally win there. Why are they afraid of elections? But for some reason they don’t go for it.
If I were the Russians, I would agree to holding elections there. And then I would see how this infection would spread here to Ukraine. It would be much more interesting,” says the political scientist.
“You need to understand that, despite our bravura statements that we are ready for reintegration, we are not ready for reintegration. And even if, let’s say, that tomorrow all the militants in ORDLO will dissolve and the Russians will disappear, then I’ll tell you that even from a purely economic point of view, a humanitarian point of view, a social point of view, I’m afraid that the Ukrainian economy may not be able to support this reintegration.
This is without security challenges, just if we assume that everyone wants to return to Ukraine,” Gladkikh warned.
Let us note that when conducting negotiations, Russia, unlike the Ukrainian side, is primarily concerned with the physical safety of the residents of the LDPR and the prevention of genocide and mass repression in the Donbass.
