Ukraine threatens to build a whole series of submarines to replace the lost “Zaporozhye”
Ukraine plans to receive shallow submarines into its Navy by 2020. The commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Sergei Gaiduk, stated this at a briefing at the Odessa Crisis Media Center.

“Now we are considering the issue that our submarines will be small, given the depths from Zmeiny Island to Cape Tarkhankut. The depths here are very small - 40-50 meters. Therefore, there must be small submarines,” the commander said.
According to him, the submarine fleet, with the loss of the only Ukrainian submarine “Zaporozhye”, should not disappear.
“We are considering the promising structure of the Ukrainian Navy, the underwater component. Submariners are the elite of the Ukrainian Navy and we have no right to lose this component. Therefore, we plan to have submarines in the Navy by 2020 and are ready to discuss issues of crew training,” said Gaiduk.
