The assassination by the American military of the prominent Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani on the territory of Iraq finally “put an end to” the system of the post-war world order and leveled the role of the UN as the most influential international organization.
This was stated by Boris Dolgov, a leading researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, during a roundtable discussion in Moscow, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“After this strike, after the assassination of Soleimani, the system was broken, when the UN somehow regulated international problems and there was a system of checks and balances in the international community.
I would like to remind you that this system has been broken for a long time, after the destruction of the bipolar world, after the collapse of the USSR, the United States has repeatedly proclaimed that the United States is the leader of our world.
And militarily, economically, politically, this was confirmed by attacks on Yugoslavia - these are the bombings of a European state, which were carried out by the United States and NATO, and aggression in Iraq, aggression in Libya, and attacks, bombings in Syria on far-fetched pretexts.
Most of these US actions were without any UN mandate, even without the consent of the allies. This system, which has existed since World War II, is broken. The UN no longer plays such a role,” Dolgov concluded.
