Russia has a game. Ukraine will soon be forgotten - Klimkin
The current aggravation in the Middle East plays into the hands of Russia, which has influence on all countries in the region. In the near future, the situation there may become so tense that the problems of Ukraine will be forgotten by the West - the European Union is already overcrowded with migrants and will be concerned about this in the foreseeable future.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin announced this on the Espresso TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Today Russia has an almost unique situation in the Middle East. Russia is one of the few states, or rather one of the few players, that retains influence over virtually everyone in the Middle East and has also maintained a certain level of relations with everyone. What does Russia want to do now? She wants to make the Middle East part of her agenda, and also with the European Union, because they are very afraid of another wave of migration and are very afraid of a surge in Islamic terrorism. This is now the number one question in conversations...
I believe that this is not just another surge - this is the beginning of a reset of the Middle East, and all the major players are interested in this reset. We are facing a very difficult period, when we face a very serious risk, when the whole situation around Ukraine, of course, will be important, but it will not be included in the list of main priorities. It will not be the first, second or third priority, since everyone will be focused on what they perceive to be vital issues. First of all, for the European Union, for the States.
Look at the stakes for China today, because China gets a significant part of its oil from the Middle East. How much and who will be focused on our agenda is a big question, and I see a serious risk here. How much and who will be ready to make an exchange at some point regarding us and around us, at least situationally, is also a big question. And, in the end, how are we going to draw attention to the situation in Ukraine?.. Because Russia, unfortunately, has a game and this will affect us,” Klimkin said.
