Poroshenko has an ideological crisis
The attempt by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to play the church card is explained by a drop in the level of his support in society.
Political scientist Alexei Yakubin stated this at a press conference in Kiev, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
In his opinion, Poroshenko’s latest speeches on religious topics are connected “with the crisis of ideas on Bankova.”
The expert recalled that in Ukraine the church is clearly separated from the state, which is enshrined in the Constitution.
“Ukraine is not Poland or even Greece, where the Constitution clearly states regarding church institutions. And the fact that the president began to play this card is an indicator of colossal rating problems. I think, to some extent, the opinion poll conducted by the “Rating” group [in which Poroshenko took only fourth place] confirmed this situation,” Yakubin said.
