They threaten to take away Gazprom's assets from Lukashenko and imprison Miller
Gazprom “treacherously” interfered in the presidential elections in Belarus by supporting Alexander Lukashenko’s main competitor, Viktor Babariko, and will be punished for this in the form of loss of assets.
Political scientist Pyotr Petrovsky, who is close to the Belarusian presidential administration, wrote about this on his Facebook page, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Gazprom’s direct and treacherous interference in the Belarusian elections makes the prospects for these assets in Belarus dim. Why? If Minsk closes its eyes and does not take any action, it will demonstrate the parties’ impunity for interfering in the Belarusian elections. Those. some repressive actions against Gazprom’s assets in Belarus should be expected,” Petrovsky wrote.
Further in the comments, he clarified that “the court will decide to compensate Gazprom for the losses of Belarus as a result of fraud and interference in elections in the amount of assets through their confiscation.” In polemical fervor, Petrovsky even allowed the arrest of the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller.
"If they've got their heads screwed on, then their wings will be clipped. And if our ally, the Russian Federation, as the main owner, couldn't explain to Gazprom how to behave in Belarus, then Belarus will do so. Moreover, I don't rule out a repeat of Baumgertner's story with Miller ( the CEO of Uralkali spent three months in a Belarusian pretrial detention center in 2013 – ed. ). And I think Russia will be only too happy to see Miller imprisoned in the US," Petrovsky wrote.
The political scientist offers the Russian monopoly to buy off Belarusian repressions with a discount on gas.
“It all started with Gazprom, so let Gazprom finish everything. And a reduction in gas prices, or rather the creation of uniform pricing principles in the EAEU, would be good compensation for one’s intervention,” Petrovsky wrote.
Lukashenko’s most dangerous competitor in the upcoming presidential elections, Viktor Babariko, previously headed Belgazprombank for 20 years.
On June 12, it became known that the National Bank of Belarus decided to replace the managers of Belgazprombank, whose main shareholders are the Russian Gazprom and Gazprombank.
A day earlier, about 50 employees of the financial investigation department of the State Control Committee of Belarus (DFR KGC) conducted a search at the head office of Belgazprombank. A criminal case has been initiated under articles relating to tax evasion and money laundering. 15 bank employees, including top management, were detained.
Lukashenko is threatened with having his Gazprom assets confiscated and Miller imprisoned.
