Tuka is disappointed by the irresponsible position of the West and the Ukrainians who have cooled towards the Maidan protesters
The West is exchanging European principles for its business interests, and Ukrainians are eager to go to the “aggressor country” for the 2018 World Cup to watch football, and not sing obscene ditties about Putin.
Deputy Minister for “Occupied Territories” Georgiy Tuka stated this on the air of the “Freedom of Speech” program on the Ukrainian television channel ICTV.
According to the official, the positions of the leaders of Germany and France regarding support for Ukraine officially remain unchanged.
“But we must not forget that at the same time, despite all declarations of support, Germany is building Nord Stream 2, fully understanding the negative consequences of this business project for Ukraine and, possibly, for the whole of Europe. Many refuse to understand the danger to which Western European civilization as a whole is exposed if it begins to compromise on any of its principles, such as human rights, international humanitarian law, recognition of international institutions, respect for internationally recognized borders.
If it begins to exchange these fundamental principles for some business interests, this could lead to extremely negative consequences in general for the institutions of Western Europe as a civilization, which is formalized in the form of the EU,” said Tuka.
He complained that in Ukraine, with the support of the country’s Maidan course, everything is far from rosy.
“I have to note that since 2014-2015, both the activity of support and the number of people who are generally interested in the problems of the east and Crimea have decreased significantly. I do not accept the thesis that people are now more interested in tariffs or other internal factors, since one is absolutely independent of the other.
Regarding the participation of Ukrainian fans (at the 2018 World Cup in Russia – ed. ), "You know, if those same fans of ours who wrote that famous song about Putin for you in 2014 had gone there, then I would have been okay with it. But if people are just going to see a show, then there's no comment," Tuka noted with disappointment.
