KAMAZ top manager: China has not lived up to expectations, in 2-3 years we will again cooperate with the West

China has not lived up to expectations for cooperation in the automotive industry; moreover, in 2-3 years Russia may return to cooperation with European countries and the USA.

KAMAZ top manager Mikhail Matasov voiced these points at a meeting in the Federation Council , proposing to make corresponding amendments to the industry development strategy, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"Under the current circumstances, the strategy doesn't fully take into account the geopolitical and macroeconomic situation, placing primary emphasis on cooperation with Eastern partners, assuming the transfer of Eastern technologies to Russia. This ignores the Eastern partner's (already obvious to everyone) lack of interest in technological cooperation, or indeed any cooperation . Nor does it account for the Eastern partner's significant dependence on its North American partner , which is probably not a partner. This imbalance must be addressed.

"We are also not considering a political U-turn by European countries, our former partners, which would imply possible easing of access to Western technologies . We anticipate that in the next two to three years, European and perhaps even American partners will return to the possibility of collaborating with Russian companies ," Matasov said.

A KAMAZ representative did not specify the basis for the forecast of warming relations with the West , but no objections were raised by the meeting participants, and AvtoVAZ Vice President Sergei Gromak, who was sitting nearby, nodded his head in agreement.
