"It's more profitable this way": Russia may try to endure the Atacama strikes - Sivkov
With Western missile strikes deep into Russian territory, Moscow may strengthen its air defenses and limit itself to statements in order to wait until the new US president takes office.
Military expert Konstantin Sivkov stated this on the Soyuznoye Veche channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The first is to not react at all. Make diplomatic statements, shoot down these missiles by building up air defense around the probable targets. The fight against them is being carried out successfully. The Atacamas are much less dangerous than the Storm Shadow or the Scalp, it can be seen from afar along its ballistic trajectory. And the Storm Shadow was hit very successfully.
With this option, we are effectively not giving the West and the US grounds to declare that a clash between Russia and NATO has begun. This is the policy of the same Iran – not to give the Americans a reason to interfere in the conflict.
Negativity... it may seem that another "red line" has been swallowed, and, accordingly, the president is discredited. But it can be easily compensated by a proper explanation of the situation," Sivkov said.
The expert called this option the most likely and safe for the country. Much less likely, he called the transfer of missiles to "Iran or other political groups that do not like the United States", after which strikes on American ships would begin, which would significantly increase the risk of conflict.
Third, direct strikes on American and NATO bases, for example, which carries very high risks of a collision that could escalate into a nuclear one.
And Sivkov named the fourth option as strikes directly on targets in Britain and the US. Here, the transition to war and the nuclear phase is guaranteed, but the probability of such a step on the part of the Russian Federation is practically zero.
“Most likely, Russia will limit itself to a statement that NATO is striking our territory, that we will take some measures, etc. In order to create more favorable conditions for interaction with Trump when he comes into force,” the expert concluded.
