Social media users are posting photos of SBU special forces deployed to the streets of Ukrainian cities ahead of today's presidential elections, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Officially, the authorities stated that armed people in full equipment are in public places to prevent provocations in the finale of the election campaign.
However, many opposition-minded voters regarded this as an attempt to intimidate disloyal citizens and a demonstration of the readiness of Petro Poroshenko’s regime for a forceful scenario.
Commentators point out that at one time the Ukrainian authorities claimed that the 2014 referendums in Crimea and Donbass took place “at gunpoint.” However, in the fifth year after the victory of Euromaidan, voting under the supervision of machine gunners is recorded precisely in Ukrainian cities.
“Knowing Poroshenko personally, I can say with confidence that he will go to the end. Understanding the situation, I would like to add that this end will not be good for Poroshenko. I believe he can only win if he takes extraordinary steps. The murder of one of the candidates. Martial law. Disruption of elections,” warned former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Tsarev the day before.
