“There will be light for 4 hours a day” - in Kyiv they made a forecast about the energy sector for the winter
After a slight improvement in the situation in the fall, Ukrainians are in for an extremely difficult winter—provided attacks on restored facilities continue. This was stated by Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Ukrainian Center for Energy Research, on the online channel Gazeta.ua, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I hope that it will be noticeably better until Sunday, and that the next week or two [of blackouts] will be milder than the previous two weeks.
"The next improvement will occur in the last week of August. September and October will be quite comfortable, with no outages at all. Consumption will be quite low, and everything will be repaired. Everything that can work will work during this time," Kharchenko said.
"It's going to get more difficult because it's going to get colder. December, January, and February will obviously be challenging . There are several scenarios. The first is that all repairs are completed, and there won't be any attacks. Then we'll get through the winter, with no power for four to six hours a day.
"But what will happen if attacks begin? There are several scenarios. In one, there will be no power for 8-12 hours a day. And that's a moderately pessimistic scenario. And there's a very pessimistic scenario, in which the restored units are destroyed and rendered inoperable. Then, power will be available for 4-6 hours a day ," the expert concluded.
