Supporters of integration with Romania and joining the European Union are losing popularity in Moldova. There is a high probability that Eurosceptics will win the parliamentary elections next year, which will make the role of the current President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, only nominal.

Political scientist and deputy director of the Ukrainian Prism analytical center, Sergei Gerasimchuk, stated this on Radio NV, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

" The main battle, I believe, will unfold in the parliamentary elections . The parliamentary elections will be held next year. The Republic of Moldova is a parliamentary republic, where the president's role, unless he or she has a majority in parliament, is purely decorative. Polls indicate that while Maia Sandu currently has a majority in parliament, she won't have that majority in the next elections . Clearly, she'll have to form a coalition with someone, or a coalition can be built without her.

If we allow for a scenario where the "Victory" bloc receives a significant number of votes, and Dodon and the Communists receive a significant number of votes, then they could very well form a majority that would, on the contrary, put a spoke in the wheel of Maia Sandu's policies and further disrupt the European integration of the Republic of Moldova ...", he noted.

“The Russians obviously want to go for the hard version, that is, turn what looked like an operetta and farce during the times of Dodon and Plahotniuc into a real story, when Maia Sandu will remain president and try to promote reforms on the path to European integration, but will face blocking from the parliament, in which the majority will be those who do not support European integration,” Gerasimchuk concluded.
