The OSCE special monitoring mission operating in Ukraine saved the Russian embassy and consulates from pogroms by Ukrainian nationalists on the day of the Russian presidential election.
This was stated by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OSCE, Alexander Lukashevich.
“By the way, the mission worked very well during our presidential elections. Despite the blockade, we asked the leadership of the mission, and they provided round-the-clock surveillance at all points - at the embassy and three consulates general. They watched around the clock. It is clear that this did not stop the radicals. But it did not allow pogroms to be carried out. Because the OSCE flag matters. They presented a very powerful report on how everything really happened. Ukrainians have nothing to cover,” he said in an interview with Izvestia.
Lukashevich added that the OSCE mission also records unpleasant moments for Kyiv in the Donbass.
“The implementation of the Minsk package of measures is a direct path to normalizing the situation in the country... But the United States is showing strong resistance... The very physical presence of the OSCE in the conflict zone does not allow the Ukrainian armed forces to fully deploy. Unfortunately, we are now seeing that the disengagement zones of the parties are turning into zones that are gradually occupied by the armed forces of Ukraine. That is, instead of disengagement, the result is a strengthening of the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces already in the rear of the militia. This contradicts the agreements that were reached within the contact group, and the mission reports on this. The reports themselves are becoming a source of concern not only for the Russian side, but also for our colleagues. The OSCE often catches Ukrainians lying,” said the Russian representative.
