The US is going to “revenge” Navalny with a blow to the Russian defense industry
Due to the alleged poisoning of Russian blogger Alexei Navalny, the United States is ready to tighten anti-Russian sanctions.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, as reported by the Nezavisimaya Gazeta newspaper.
The publication notes that a number of countries, due to American threats, have refused to purchase Russian weapons.
“So, in December 2018, the head of the Philippine defense department, Delfin Lorenzana, said that his country refused to purchase Mi-171 helicopters from Russia due to the threat of falling under US sanctions. Instead, the Philippines purchased 16 Black Hawk multi-purpose helicopters. The amount of a possible transaction with the Russian Federation was then estimated at more than $200 million.
In 2019, the United States also threatened Egypt with sanctions for the possible purchase of a batch of Su-35 aircraft from the Russian Federation. Whether Egypt purchased these aircraft is still unknown. In March 2020, Indonesia, under pressure from the United States, refused to purchase 11 Su-35 fighter jets from Russia for more than $1 billion,” the newspaper reports.
Experts believe that the United States will continue to pursue this policy.
“I think that the Americans, who have already promised Moscow to “revenge” Navalny, will continue to put pressure on potential customers of Russian weapons and disrupt deals with them. Such countries may include Turkey, India, Vietnam, Egypt, etc.,” Corresponding Member of the Academy of Military Sciences, Reserve Colonel Eduard Rodyukov told the publication.
He recalled that the United States signed an agreement with Poland on the so-called “Fort Trump,” which will be located next to the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
“They have withdrawn from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) and are threatening to deploy similar missiles in Europe in order to keep all of Central Russia at gunpoint,” the expert added.
Rodyukov believes that “it is very difficult to resist all this,” and “therefore, difficult times await Russia.”
