The United States is testing sentiments regarding the permissible renunciation of territories by Ukraine, – Chaly
The American media are testing the waters and testing the public's reaction, throwing various options for a truce in Ukraine into the information space.
For example, a recent publication by the influential American publication The Washington Post, which states that one of the options for achieving peace would be the abandonment of Crimea in exchange for Ukraine retaining the rest of the territory.

It is also not without reason that information about the allocation of Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine appeared in the American press earlier than President Vladimir Zelensky, who was on a visit to Washington, announced it. The same outline contains data that the head of the Ukrainian state was unable to solicit modern weapons from the United States.
This was stated by former Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Valeriy Chaly on the Lviv television channel NTA, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“If Patriot was announced in the newspapers, what does that mean? The presidents could have announced this at their press conference, but for some reason they did so in the newspapers. This is all for a reason.
You see, the media in America is an influential force; they interact with authorities. Not like we do stupidly, but creatively. They have their own sources of information, they are independent, you cannot put pressure on them.
But lately there have been a lot of such, very simplified materials about Ukraine. In this case, I believe the goal is to present the sentiment around such simplified scenarios. Journalists understand perfectly well, I myself gave an interview to Washington Post journalists a week ago, I know perfectly well what questions they asked. Yes, they ask questions about what kind of world Ukraine will accept, yes, they are concerned about how long this will last.
They are not pushing us, but they want to hear from the Ukrainian authorities the phrase: “At this stage I am ready to stop,” but the Ukrainian authorities do not say this phrase.
And rightly so, because if it stops without completing the de-occupation of the territory, then we will have a war here for years, and we will pass it on to our children. Therefore, this is the situation - you can talk about scenarios, but we expect everything that happens on the fronts,” Chaly said.
The US is testing the waters on whether Ukraine can cede its territories, says Chaly.
