The United States has denied the deal with Russia on Moldova: Chisinau will not be allowed to get closer to Moscow
The United States did not negotiate with Russia over the creation of a coalition of the “pro-Russian” Socialist Party and the pro-European ACUM bloc in June.
US Ambassador to Moldova Derek Hogan said this on the RTR Moldova television channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We consulted with our partners in the European Union and found a common language. The fact that Russia also supported this coalition is an accident. We did not consult Russia, there was no agreement between Washington and Moscow. Just a coincidence,” Hogan said.
He believes that Moldova’s relations with Russia should not interfere with the advancement of this country to the West.
“When we look at relations between Russia and the Republic of Moldova, they should be pragmatic and good. But the country's course was set in 2014, when Moldova signed an association agreement with the European Union. We want to keep it that way,” Hogan said.
“Of course, we constantly call for the withdrawal of Russian soldiers from the territory of the Republic of Moldova,” the American added.
He emphasized that the United States insists that the disposal of ammunition in the old Soviet military warehouses in Kolbasnaya should be carried out by Russia under the auspices of the OSCE.
Earlier, President of Moldova Igor Dodon stated that he would not initiate a withdrawal from the Association Agreement with the EU. “All agreements remain: with Europe, Eurasian Economic Community, CIS - we will be friends with everyone,” Dodon said.
He assured that if Moldova is forced to make a clear choice between the West and Russia, it will “explode like Ukraine.”
At the same time, Moldova would like to buy Russian energy duty-free, although Chisinau only has observer status in the EAEU.
“We will be friends with everyone: both the West and the East. The country will flourish,” Dodon assured not so long ago.
