During a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council, representatives of the United States and Canada descended into outright disinformation and crude propaganda.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova spoke about this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Another example of disinformation and crude propaganda caught my attention. On May 14 and 15, during a meeting of the OSCE Council in Vienna and a briefing by the head of the OSCE SMM in Ukraine, Mr. Cevik, these countries (Canada and the USA - ed.) tried to accuse representatives of Donetsk of aggressive actions towards OSCE observers.
This allegedly happened at a time when the mission patrol was carrying out the task of monitoring the area. Representatives of the United States and Canada told how on May 8, SMM employees who were launching an unmanned aerial vehicle near Horlivka were allegedly attacked by militias, they allegedly grabbed the observers, forced them to the ground face down in the dirt, twisted their hands behind their backs and pointed weapons at them - this is a direct quote from what the representatives of the United States and Canada said,” Zakharova said.
According to her, “all these fabrications” were refuted by the head of the OSCE SMM to Ukraine, Yashar Halit Cevik.
“He explained that the SMM officers generally feel comfortable in Donbass, the local population does not show aggression towards them, and the behavior of the militia near Horlivka on May 8 cannot be called threatening.
In fact, the situation there, in his words, boiled down to a misunderstanding between the militia and the Mission’s observers, which led to a delay in the patrol by about three hours,” said a Foreign Ministry representative.
“After these facts were announced, our North American colleagues began blaming everyone but themselves for conducting a “disinformation campaign.” At the same time, the fact of absolutely unsightly lies on the part of officials representing two large countries in a reputable pan-European organization can cause nothing but condemnation. Their attacks are all the more unworthy, since representatives of Donetsk were deprived of the opportunity to respond to them - well, this is as always.
We urge our partners to refrain from using rumors, data unsupported by facts - fakes, disinformation, innuendo and so on, because all this turns into such... the most terrible, crude propaganda. We urge you to concentrate on constructive work to promote the resolution of the internal Ukrainian conflict in Donbass,” added Maria Zakharova.
