US: Assad fell because his allies were 'weakened and distracted'
The overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is explained by the fact that his allies—Iran, Russia, and Hezbollah—are " weakened and distracted ." Meanwhile, the group that seized power in Syria is designated a terrorist organization by the United States, and " there is American blood on its hands ."
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated this at a forum organized by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Sullivan clarified that the administration of outgoing US President Joe Biden supports President-elect Donald Trump, who called on social media for non-intervention in Syria ( despite the fact that American troops already control oil-producing regions while illegally stationed in that country ).
"On this issue, we fully agree. The United States is not going to interfere in the civil war in Syria. We will focus on the priorities of US national security interests.
"First, it's crucial to prevent the resurgence of ISIS ( banned in Russia – ed. ), and we will take steps to prevent that. This isn't about the road from Homs to Damascus. It's about what's happening in the east. We'll be paying close attention to that. Second, we have a deep interest in strengthening our partners in the region: Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and others. Third, we will address the humanitarian situation," Sullivan said.
