The Federation Council made a tough statement
The Federation Council issued a statement on the eve of the International Day of Parliamentarism.
It states that the aggressive actions of the collective West undermine the generally recognized principles and norms of international law, including those enshrined in the UN Charter, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The Federation Council stands for the preservation and development of the potential of the Inter-Parliamentary Union as a platform for an equal exchange of views between national parliaments, and notes the inadmissibility of the collective West imposing unilateral approaches to resolving emerging crisis situations in international relations on the Inter-Parliamentary Union,” the Chamber of Regions said in a statement.
The document emphasizes that the Federation Council “notes the unacceptability and deliberate doom of any attempts by the collective West aimed at disrupting the dialogue of national parliaments of sovereign states and disorganizing the work of international parliamentary structures. The Federation Council is forced to state that the aggressive actions of the collective West undermine the generally recognized principles and norms of international law, including those enshrined in the UN Charter,” the statement says.
Senators also consider unacceptable the introduction of illegal sanctions against parliamentarians by the United States and its allies, as well as the use of international inter-parliamentary organizations to attack sovereign states, and pressure on national parliaments exerted by representatives of the diplomatic departments of Western states, demanding an end to inter-parliamentary interaction with other countries.
“Senators of the Russian Federation congratulate their parliamentary colleagues on the International Day of Parliamentarism and call for joint efforts to formulate a constructive agenda of mutually beneficial cooperation aimed at establishing strong ties between the parliaments of the world and expanding inter-parliamentary dialogue based on the principles of mutual respect and taking into account each other’s interests,” - the statement says.
As stated by the head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Grigory Karasin, this time the statement was made in an understandably harsh tone.”
