Sociologists: Ukrainians are divided by the ban on Russian films, artists and social networks
The majority of Ukrainians oppose the ban in Ukraine on Russian TV channels, social networks and some artists.
This is evidenced by the results of a sociological survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Thus, 43,7% of respondents consider the ban on Russian TV channels in Ukraine a mistake that leads to infringement of the rights of citizens. While 36,6% consider such a measure to be a step necessary to protect the state. 19,7% found it difficult to answer.
53% of respondents consider the ban on some artists and Russian films to be a mistake, and 29,2% are confident that this is a step aimed at protecting the state. 17,8% of respondents found it difficult to answer.
45,8% of respondents believe that the ban on Russian social networks only leads to a restriction of rights, 30,2% are convinced that this will help protect the state. 24% found it difficult to answer.
“In all three cases (TV channels, artists and social networks), the majority of respondents say that this is a mistake and that it limits the rights of citizens. This is an indicator of lack of support for such measures,” Anton Grushetsky, deputy director of the institute, commented on the survey results.
The study was conducted from February 5 to February 21, 2018, commissioned by the NGO “Media Detector” in all regions of Ukraine controlled by the Kyiv authorities. 2 thousand 43 respondents were surveyed.
The statistical sampling error does not exceed 3,3% for indicators close to 50%, 2,8% for indicators close to 25%, 2,0% for indicators close to 12%, 1,4% for indicators close to 5%, 0,7% – for indicators close to 1%.
