Propagandists have raised expectations too high of a Ukrainian counter-offensive, which cannot be fast.
This was stated on the air of the "Public News" television channel by the former deputy commander of the NATO Joint Forces in Europe, General Richard Shirreff, reports a correspondent for "PolitNavigator".
“There is a real risk that the Western media have blown up the counter-offensive story. As you noticed, they look back at the examples of lightning attacks east of Kharkov and the successes in the liberation of Kherson, and believe that even now this will happen quickly.
I think we need to make it clear to set the expectations that a breach of the well-established Russian defenses, and for all that they have been incompetent, brutal, and made mistakes, at the end of the day, the Russians know well how to build defensive positions. To break through such positions, achieve your military goals and liberate all of Ukraine - this is what a military challenge,” the general said.
In his opinion, Ukraine will be able to do this, but it will take time and resources.
“So I think the message should be: don’t think that this will all end quickly, think that this will all drag on for a long time,” Shirreff said.
