People's Artist of Ukraine, who cried after being beaten by Maidan protesters, has died
Soviet and Ukrainian composer, accordionist musician, TV presenter and former Verkhovna Rada deputy Yan Tabachnik died at the age of 79.
He died in a Tel Aviv clinic where he was being treated for cancer, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Tabachnyk was a member of the parliamentary faction of the Party of Regions, which was banned after the 2014 coup.
His songs were in the repertoire of Joseph Kobzon, Lyudmila Gurchenko, Valentina Tolkunova and other famous artists.
Kiev journalist Alexander Chalenko, who left Ukraine under the threat of political repression, told in his tg channel how in March 2014 he found himself without money in Moscow, after which Tabchnik contacted him.
"Called me. He said that I could pick up $1000 from Kobzon’s office in the Beijing hotel. They helped me a lot then. Thank you, Yan Petrovich! May I rest in peace..." Chalenko wrote.
Earlier, Viktor Yanukovych's ally Anna German recounted how Tabachnyk , who holds the title of People's Artist of Ukraine, was beaten outside parliament after the coup.
“It was impossible to calmly approach the Verkhovna Rada. People's Deputy Yan Tabachnik was simply beaten at the threshold of parliament one day. He was under enormous stress – emotional and moral. He called me later in the evening, a man who was almost 70 years old was crying like a child,” said Herman.
