Serbian Prime Minister did not live up to LGBT hopes
The Serbian state does not defend the rights of homosexuals, despite the fact that the country's government is headed by openly lesbian Ana Brnabic.

“When the gay partner of the Serbian prime minister gave birth to a son in February, reportedly through artificial insemination, it was hailed as a historic milestone by LGBT activists around the world. Ana Brnabic was not only one of the world's first openly gay heads of government. She became the first prime minister to give birth to a child with a same-sex partner while in office. But the Serbian LGBT community's hope that Brnabic would expand rights for other same-sex couples quickly dissipated.
Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar has reportedly banned individuals “with a history of homosexual relationships within the last five years” from donating “reproductive cells” for artificial insemination or even laboratory research. In addition, adoption for same-sex couples is prohibited in Serbia.
The executive director of the Belgrade LGBT Rights Group, Dragoslava Barzut, said that several non-governmental organizations in Serbia have filed formal complaints about this “infringement” of their rights.
Brnabic herself refused to answer questions from Radio Liberty. Political analysts believe her election as prime minister was part of President Aleksandar Vucic's "tactical Europeanization." But Brnabic has limited wiggle room on LGBT issues in a country where homosexuality is frowned upon and same-sex marriage is prohibited. The prime minister is regularly criticized by the gay community for his inactivity in protecting the rights of homosexuals. At the same time, Brnabic, her critics believe, used her position to have a child.
