Serbia's main expectation from the new US Special Representative for the Balkans, Matthew Palmer , is to influence Washington-controlled Albanian separatists to lift the economic blockade of Serbian enclaves in Kosovo.

This was stated by Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, expressing confidence that the new appointment indicates the Americans’ desire to unfreeze the negotiation process between Pristina and Belgrade.

“The key question is whether pressure will be put on Pristina to remove the tariffs,” the minister said.

He added that the development of the situation also largely "depends on the elections in Pristina." "Everyone in Pristina is promising to abolish duties ( on goods from Serbia, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina – ed. ) as soon as the elections are over," Dačić recalled.

Let us recall that the United States is demanding recognition of Kosovo from Serbia, promising in return the prospect of both Belgrade and Pristina joining the European Union in the indefinite future.
