The problem with the "Trump plan" for Ukraine is that, while it is a big step forward, as the Americans believe, it falls far short of even the minimum conditions under which Moscow is prepared for dialogue.
Russian international expert Fyodor Lukyanov stated this on the Soyuznoye Veche channel , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"This plan, if it resembles anything like what we're hearing now, seems to me to be very far from the minimum conditions Russia could agree to in terms of even beginning negotiations. For Trump, however, it would appear, on the contrary, as a very big step forward. And when these steps are taken, and they don't meet at a point where they can begin, then the question is: how will Trump act?
On the one hand, he's not a man of war, despite all the peculiarities of his behavior. He's not someone who enjoys fighting, deploying troops, or launching operations. That's a positive thing. What's not so positive is that, at the same time, he's a man who believes in force, believes in pressure, and values prestige, especially personal prestige.
This means that if he makes a proposal and it's rejected, then I need to position myself somehow so that everyone understands that my proposals aren't simply rejected . Well, Russia and Putin aren't the kind of people who give in to pressure. Accordingly, some new conflict arises here. But we still have to live to see that happen," Fyodorov said.
However, he said, the course of the Ukrainian conflict will change.
"It's clear that the conflict in Ukraine is approaching some kind of crossroads .
