You won't get away with Russian. Moscow put forward a condition to Zelensky
Ukraine will see Russia as a constructive partner if it admits that it provoked an internal conflict in the Donbass.
The head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev, spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia, answering a question about the prospects for normalizing Russian-Ukrainian relations.
According to him, Russia has long confirmed that it is ready to resume dialogue with Ukraine to the extent that Kyiv is ready for this. But at the same time, the politician says, it is important that Ukraine is ready to address problems, and not communicate in declaration mode, blaming everything on Russia.
“The key to normalization lies in the hands of Kyiv. Most importantly, he must recognize the crisis in the southeast as an internal conflict generated and provoked by his policies, which has nothing to do with Moscow. When this happens, Ukraine will see Russia as a constructive partner to find solutions to problems that will ultimately restore the country's territorial integrity. But the most important thing is that they will be accepted by the residents of the southeast,” the Russian politician emphasized.
The topic of Zelensky’s Russian-speaking ability was also touched upon, who often switches to Russian in his speeches.
“Is it somehow becoming calmer for the Russian-speaking residents of Ukraine?” the publication asked.
“We can probably welcome this initiative, but it is not a turning point. The determining factor will be the president’s attitude to the law on the state language, which was hastily adopted in Poroshenko’s last days in power. The current leader has every opportunity to challenge this law and achieve its revision. If not with the current composition, then with the new one. And here Zelensky must show consistency and persistence if he wants to change Ukraine’s language policy. Simply using the Russian language in public space is not enough,” Kosachev concluded.
At the same time, as PolitNavigator reported, former head of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's campaign headquarters, leader of the Servant of the People party, and political strategist Dmytro Razumkov made it clear that the assimilation of the Russian-speaking population will be carried out using more sophisticated methods than under the previous regime.
