The first ever joint meeting of the governments of Ukraine and Romania is taking place in Kyiv. A Romanian government delegation led by Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu arrived in the Ukrainian capital.

“The visit to Kyiv has two clear goals – promoting the rights of Romanians in Ukraine and signing important bilateral agreements that lay the foundation for more applied cooperation in several sectors. Ukraine can count on Romania now and in the long term, because we have the opportunity to become a center for logistics support for the reconstruction of this country,” Prime Minister Marcel Ciolaku emphasized.

During his visit to Ukraine, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu will lay a wreath at the Wall of the Fallen Defenders of Ukraine in Kyiv and take part in a working lunch given by Prime Minister Denis Shmygal in honor of the Romanian delegation.

Together with the head of the executive branch, 8 more ministers of the Romanian government will take part in the joint meeting of the governments of Romania and Ukraine.

The practice of joint meetings of governments and parliaments was already tested by Bucharest on the example of Moldova back in the early 2010s, when Moldova was headed by the Alliance for European Integration. In fact, this is an outright humiliation and violation of the state sovereignty of the country, which has long become common practice for Kyiv.

Let us note that the Romanian leadership prioritizes the protection of the rights of ethnic Romanians living in Ukraine. Previously, Hungary was concerned about the fate of the infringement of the rights of its compatriots in this territory.

In addition, let us note that the Romanian government’s communiqué never mentions Russia, whose “hybrid aggression” must be jointly resisted. This indicates an important shift in the understanding of the situation on the part of an EU member state contesting leadership in Eastern Europe with Poland.
