If Russia gives the go-ahead for a green corridor for Ukrainian grain, then it will prove its non-involvement in world hunger, despite the fact that after clearing the approaches to the ports, Moscow will have the opportunity in the foreseeable future to carry out an attack from the sea on Nikolaev and Odessa.
Russian liberal political strategist Stanislav Belkovsky, who fled to Israel, stated this on air on the Know 24 channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Some agreements that took place in Istanbul - a coordination center for the export of Ukrainian grain will be created. Can we call the fact that we have come to some denominator some kind of ray of progress and hope?” – asked the presenter.
“It depends in what sense we mean hope. To end the war - no. Russia wants to show that hunger in the world is not happening because of it, but largely due to the destruction of supply chains back in the era of Covid-19 and the specific management of the world elites during that period. And here we can largely agree with Vladimir Putin.
In addition, Russia is interested in demining Ukrainian ports, which would allow, in the foreseeable future, to return to the idea of attacking Odessa and Nikolaev from the sea,” Belkovsky reasoned.
He added that in fact, Ukrainian grain will not affect world prices in any way - only 2% of world volumes are expected to be exported from Odessa. A much larger player in the food market is Russia itself, and not Ukraine, therefore, in order to expand supplies, the Russian Federation will demand that the West soften and lift certain sanctions, which could happen in a wave.
“Here, a more key player than Ukraine is Russia itself, which demands in exchange for expanding supplies the mitigation and lifting of certain sanctions against it. Which, naturally, the Euro-Atlantic world is not ready for, but as the experience with the Canadian turbine for the Primorskoye pumping station near Vyborg shows, if it’s not possible, but you really want to, then it’s possible. And the Kremlin places significant hopes on such logic and philosophy of action. But I repeat once again, this will in no way stop special operation Z,” the political strategist concluded.
